There's this homeless guy who comes into Dunkin' Donuts everyday for a cup of coffee.
He usually comes bearing gifts; newspapers and magazines for his "two Chinese girls".
Sometimes, his "2 Chinese girls" won't be working, so he has to settle for the rest of us.
He has this thing with all things Chinese.
The other day, a couple of girls came in, and asked a customer to buy them a donut (he actually got them a donut. and get this. he waited for me to give his $0.20 back).
And so Cindy's Boyfriend asked the crew, "Does this ever happen in China?"
(Come to think about it, I've heard him say "Does this ever happen in China" quite a number of times. Hmmm.)
Last night, at the expense of getting free supplies of weekend papers, I had to listen to him go on and on about Myspace in China. Chinese government. Chinese economic policy. How, in the future, NZ should probably get their boxes made in China.
He even did some readings for us.
Oh how Cindy's "boyfriend" amuses me.
Anyway, I read an interesting piece on Kiwi foods. According to Yvonne Marie Lorkin, who writes for SundayView, there are 7 truly iconic New Zealand Foods.
They are...
Tip Top Hokey Pokey Ice Cream
Tastes like vanilla ice cream with caramel swirl actually. What is Hokey Pokey? I don't know. I know of a song that goes like this, "Do the hokey pokey and turn around, that's what it's all about!"
Sounds kinky.
Pavlova
Meringue with fruit filling. Too egg-y for me. I like the fruits and the cream though.
Lemon & Paeroa
Can you believe that I've never actually tasted it?
And for that, I am proud.
Pineapple Lumps
When I first saw the P'apple Lumps' ad on TV, I thought they must taste really good.
Then, in one of my Visual Comm classes, my tutor offered us all the p'apple lumps.
I took it from its familiar yellow packet, put it in my mouth, and...
Needless to say, that shall be my last.
Watties's Tomato Sauce
Heinz beats the crap out of Wattie's. Definately.
Vogel's Bread
See, the thing is I hardly eat bread. Everytime I buy bread, I could never finish the whole lot. So my solution is to get the cheapest. After all, bread is just bread. Taste all the same.
BUT, I've been so tempted to get me a loaf of Vogel's.
Their packagings look great. Plus they've got so many varieties I could never decide which one I wanna get.
Which is prolly why I've never bought one before. HAHA.
Nestle Reduced Cream and Maggi Onion Soup Dip
Apa ni? Never heard of this kinda dip before...Onion's always yummy though. Will definately give it a try.
Off to a good night's sleep. Toodles all.
UPDATE- Still drinking too much coffee.
